Week in Review

It's Sunday morning (well noon-ish) and as I write this I'm lying under the covers, in my cozy bed, Gilmore Girls is playing on Netflix, the sound of a neighbor's lawn mower in the background (hello spring!) and the sun is streaming through the windows.

If this isn't the perfect morning, I don't know what is.

Here's what I've been up to this week:

I can't seem to get my fill of tortilla soup, it's packed with spicy flavors & only 3 WW points per serving...that's hard to beat my friends!

Last weekend I ate lunch at the cutest little sandwich shop. The jukebox plays doo-wop style music & the sandwiches are delicious. Oh! and see those stools in the background? That's the ice cream counter! As I ate my lunch, I dreamed of renting out this little place for a friends dressed in 50's attire...Elvis playing on the jukebox...doesn't that sound like fun? It's going to happen one of these days!

I wrote a review on Amy Poehler's "Yes Please." It. was. so. funny! I recommend getting the audio...she does the narration and it took the book to a whole 'nother level.

Spring has sprung around my parts and I'm loving it! Flowers are blooming, the sun is lingering a little longer each night & the world just seems cheerful. It's a refreshing time of year and I'm savoring every second of it!

So...theSkimm shared my photo on Instagram. I feel a little famous (Did I mention FLOTUS is a fan as well?) Sign up here, all the cool kids are doing it.

Not pictured:

-St. Patricks day celebrated with friends: green beer, fajitas & so much laughter. It was perfect.

-Friday night spent with old friends; we went to see was okay. I lost interest in the series after reading the third book.

-Saturday nights with new friends and tacos (apparently I've really been craving Mexican food this week! I didn't realize it until now, but my gosh! It's all I've eaten!)

The week ahead:

-I'm cooking in a chili cook off! We're raising money for the American Heart Association. If you live in Ada, come down to the Chickasaw Community Center on Tuesday from 11 - 2! Lunch is $5!

-Book club meets this week! I can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts on "Yes Please." I'm hosting the April book club so I'm on the hunt for a good book! I'd love to hear your recommendations!

-Girls weekend with my mom & sister. We're getting blowouts & going to Mrs. Oklahoma pageant to cheer on one of my friends as she competes for the crown! It's going to be so much fun!

Have a good week!

Book Review: Yes Please!

Something to know about me, I'm not a huge comedy fan.

If I'm planning the perfect "night in" my movie choices would include a heart pounding thriller or romantic love tale that inevitably ends with me clutching a box of Kleenex

Don't get me wrong, I love "Old School," "The Ringer" and anything with Vince Vaughn, but for the most part I tend to lean towards the serious subject matter in my viewing pleasure.

When choosing books, I gravitate to genres that provoke deep thought. Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In" spoke to my soul. I hang onto every word written by Jane Austen. I swear Mr. Darcy is going to knock on my door any day now...

So when my book club chose to read Amy Poehler's "Yes Please" I wasn't thrilled. I don't really enjoy autobiographies and I don't follow Amy Poehler.

I put off reading it and finally decided to buy the audio book. The audio is narrated by Amy Poehler herself and let me tell you, it had me in tears! I finished the book in three days. I couldn't turn it off!

I listened to it in the car, in the shower, while I got ready for was absolutely hilarious

Here's the weird part: I related to her. Don't ask me how, it really doesn't make any sense because she's from Boston, an introvert, a potty mouth, a middle aged mother of two, a divorcee, she isn't shy when talking about her past drug use or sexual encounters...she is everything I'm not.... but somehow I could relate to her.

She spoke about her failures, her insecurities, her regrets. She told behind-the-scenes stories from her days on SNL and Parks. She talks about the pressures women put on each other and says this is her motto:

^^Isn't that true?

At twenty six years old, I've been experiencing a lot of societal pressure on my personal life. I swear Oriental Trading sends me their wedding catalog at least once a month. Last week, Target sent me a discount coupon in the mail. I was SO excited! I'm finally going to pull the trigger on that bar cart! But then I realized the coupon was only valid if I use their bridal registry ::insert curse word here::

Married with two kids that keep me up all night long:

"Good for her, not for me."

And then there's this quote:

If you know me in real life, you can understand why this quote might make me smile. ;-)

So my friends, I implore you to get this book. Actually, get the audio book. Amy offered a raw interpretation that you'd otherwise miss. Also, the intimacy of Amy reading her life story to me, like it was just the two of us on a long road trip, was epic!

In other news, I'm choosing our next book for book club & I NEED your help! Please, I'd love to hear your suggestions. This book is a hard act to follow and I want something good!

Week in review: Indigo

Hello Friday! I hope you've had a good week!

Here's what I've been up to:

-Hell yeah, I wear a fanny pack  -Shout out to all my Jenks Middle School classmates! Remember when North Face fanny packs were cool? (For those of you that missed out on that trend, we'd wear them across our bodies like a satchel, with the bag on our backs). I still have mine!

-Yes Please by Amy Poehler

-The Skimm This has become my new daily ritual. I've been reading The Skimm every (week)day for a few months. If you want to be more informed but don't have the time to watch the news or pick up a newspaper? This might just be your cup of tea! Check it out here.

Roasted Vegetable Pasta Salad, this looks amazing! I love all the roasted veggies with the pesto dressing...yum!

I neeeeeeed this cover up.

I'm loving navy/indigo right now & am trying to find new ways to incorporate it in the doll house. Here's what I've been inspired by:

The week ahead:

I'm headed to Durant this weekend to see Les Miserables -one of my all-time favorite shows "Red, I feel my soul on fire! Black, my world if she's not there!" (swoon)....anyway, I have a friend in the show & I can't wait to cheer her on!

Have a good weekend!

When they made the announcement that work would be closing "effective immediately" on Friday, you would have thought I'd won the lottery, I was over the moon!

Doesn't the yellow house look pretty in the snow?

A two-day work week was an extra special treat! Especially considering the fact that I was in recovery mode after an epic girls weekend -not to mention, the new season of House of Cards was released that very day!!! ::happy dance::

So I gathered up the essentials: a bottle of my favorite red wine, extra coffee & creamer, the latest issue of Glamour magazine & my favorite snack (veggie straws, ranch flavor).

I was ready.

I snuggled up on the cocoon that was my couch and suddenly, I felt this odd sensation: Boredom.

I don't know why, but I wasn't in the mood to watch Netflix. I wanted to DO something!

Am I the only one with this struggle? When I have time to relax, I'm bored. When I'm busy and have too much on my plate, I'm exhausted and want to relax.

Not to mention, last week was my first week on fitbit! Of course the week I decide to start tracking my steps, I get snowed in!

Needless to say, this weekend wasn't as I'd hoped it would be. I think I'm finally ready to say goodbye to winter.

Anyone else ready for summer street festivals?

Weekends at the lake?

Ice tea on the back patio?

Fresh flowers?

Sigh, just a few more months...

Oh! & I am proud to report that after living here for two winters, I finally know how to work the fire place!

It's a little tricky (I vaguely remember the inspector having issues with it on this day). What's a girl to do with a fresh pedicure and cold toes? YouTube for the win!

Have a wonderful week my friends!
