Gatsby, What Gatsby?

Last weekend two of my friends hosted the most fabulous birthday party I've ever been to. They were celebrating their 30th birthday, so as a farewell to their 20's they transformed a local wine bar into a speakeasy.

I styled my outfit around my grandmother's vintage clutch. The gorgeous headband was an etsy find!

I asked Mel & Shawna (the birthday girls) if I could snap a few pictures of the decor before the guests arrived...everything was so glam, so gatsby!

Each table had these darling centerpieces ...topped off with quotes from "The Great Gatsby."

"I like large parties, they are so small parties there isn't any privacy."

The birthday girls looked stunning draped in sequins!

The photo booth was a crowd favorite, check out the hashtag #hellothirty to browse all our pics over on instagram!

The bar was styled so cute with a drink menu designed to complement the invitations!

Every detail was well thought out, they even had twenties music playing over the speakers!

Well done Mel & Shawna! You guys really outdid yourselves with this one!

Happy Birthday!!

1 Year in the Doll House

Today marks the one-year anniversary since closing on the doll house.

I felt so many things that day -scared, overwhelmed, excited, nervous, independent...

I had my work cut out for me (I still do) but I've enjoyed every minute of it.

My passion for making this place my own intensified with every project I crossed off my list & my love for the doll house grew with each season.

I thought fall was my favorite. The pumpkins & mums were so welcoming.

But then it snowed and the house turned into a winter wonderland.

However, spring afternoons on the back patio are pretty hard to beat... I'll just say that they're all my favorite.

Even on a rainy day like today, it never loses it's charm.

One of my favorite things about the doll house are these two trees in the front.

They're covered with vines and their leaves glisten in the most magical way after it rains...

Oh! and the house next door?'s had a pretty good year too.

Here's to another fabulous year in the doll house!

Navigator of the Seas

I'm back from vacation & It was absolutely marvelous!

I was completely unplugged (thanks to the outrageously expensive internet at sea) for the entire 7 night no emails, Facebook updates, tweets or was somewhat of a challenge but also kind of refreshing!

I've been home for a little less than a week. I intended to post about vacation the minute I got back, however, I've been sick (I'll spare you the details but it involves the water in mexico...yuck).

We left out of Galveston aboard Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas.

The first two days were spent at sea. The waters were a little rough, at one point the captain said we had 8-9 ft. waves! We could hear the hangers knocking against the wall of our closet!

Our first stop was Roatan, Honduras.

It was by far, the most beautiful place we visited. As you can see in the photo above, the waters were crystal clear.

We spent the morning exploring the port, there were flowers everywhere and the buildings were so cheery and colorful!

We opted out of doing an excursion and spent the afternoon at the spa.

We had a TWO HOUR seaweed wrap massage. It was heavenly!

The next day was spent in Belize City, Belize.

We chose the zip-line & cave tubing excursion and had a blast!

I decided not to take my nice camera but was able to snap a few photos with my iPhone.

After a 40-minute bus ride to the rain forest, we arrived at Caves Branch.

Upon arrival, we were each given a yellow tube and head lamp. Led by our guide, we carried our tubes on a 30 minute hike into the jungle.  We made our way to a stream that took us on the most magnificent ride through the caves. I wish I'd brought a waterproof camera because it was absolutely breathtaking.

After cave tubing, we were served a hot lunch. Following lunch, we spent the afternoon zip-lining through the jungle.

If you ever travel to Belize, you've got to do this excursion!

They told us that several movies and TV shows have been filmed in the jungle at Caves Branch, including Mel Gibson's film, Apocalypto.

Our last stop was Cozumel, Mexico.

In Cozumel we swam with dolphins!

It was such an amazing experience, so much fun!

The dolphin encounter took place at really neat amusement park with a beautiful private beach so we decided to spend the rest of the day there.

We had the most amazing time, it went by way too fast!

Thank you Poppa for spoiling us! We made so many wonderful memories that I will cherish forever. I love you!

I almost forgot! Here are a few tips I picked up for those of you planning a cruise vacation in the near future!

-Bring a shoe hanger to store your toiletries, the rooms are teeny tiny and there isn't much storage space.
-Bring a power cord to allow your self a few extra outlets because there is only one outlet in the room (and none in the bathroom!)
-Book your excursions in advance! Several of them were sold out before the ship set sail!
-Bring your own water shoes on the Belize excursion! They will try to rent you a pair for $5 but wearing used shoes in a foreign country just doesn't seem right.
-Allow yourself plenty of time to get to the airport for your trip back home. We nearly missed our noon flight due to delays in customs.
*side note* our luggage didn't make it! So pack your makeup on the carry on ladies!
-DON'T drink or eat ANYTHING in Mexico! (I learned that the hard way!)

Have any of you been on a cruise? What's your favorite cruise line?
