Eggs, Rabbits, and Murder.

Yes. The title of this post does not lie. We will be talking about eggs, rabbits, and murder.

Once again, I missed the High Five deadline. Things have been so busy at work. This week won’t be any different, but I’m trying to get organized and plan ahead.

Here’s what’s been going on:

-I was introduced to farm fresh eggs. Can you believe I’ve only had eggs from the grocery store? One of my coworkers has a farm, and on his farm he has a chicken! I'll spare you the rest of the tune...He sells his eggs to everyone at work (for only $2 y’all) and last week I gave it a try.

-My friends and I decided that there aren’t enough emoji’s to cover all of our emotions. We came up with a hilarious solution. Homemade emoji’s!

High Five!

-I went to the Oklahoma City Arts Festival. I loved this unicycling rabbit and I've vowed to have it in my garden one day. I've also vowed to learn how to plant things. The mint plant I bought a month ago has been attacked by leaf eating bugs and now there aren’t any mint leaves left for my mojitos. I’m convinced this rabbit would scare them away.

-I forgot my camera so all the pictures from my weekend were taken with my phone. Sorry…

-Jack got new shoes! (Jack = my car, shoes = tires)

-I attended a blogger event hosted by Engage OKC. We met in the Downtown Library for cookies and speed mentoring. It was an absolute delight getting to meet and learn from other bloggers. I’m inspired in so many areas: Fashion, social media, design...these women were amazing.

-After the blogger meet up, some of us (Me, Allison, Melissa, Stephanie, Rachael, Sally, and Melissa ) went over to Fuzzys Tacos for drinks. Oh my, these ladies had me laughing the entire time!

-Sunday, on my rainy drive home, I listened to HLN on XM radio. If you have XM I would highly recommended tuning in on Sundays for Murder by the Book. It is a murder mystery show (similar to Dateline). I was lost in a story about two brothers who murdered their parents. By the time I arrived home, I was so engrossed in the story that I sat in my car until they announced the verdict!

I’ve been so busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday!

Awkward and Awesome...Friday?

I know my A&A post is coming a day late. I have been so busy with work that I haven't had a moment to spare! Also, I am frustrated with all the URL problems I have been having. I finally diagnosed the problem (with the help from someone on the google forum) and I think I am very close to having it resolved! If I cant make it work by Monday, I will revert back to

In lieu of the usual High Five for Friday post, I thought you might enjoy this...

-I get nervous when leaving a voicemail. I tend to ramble on and by the time I hang up I have no idea what I said. Also, I have the habit of leaving my phone number. (As if they don't already have it on their missed call list.)

-The girl in the park taking photos of herself with her iPhone. Let's be honest, we all do it. But I'm not brave enough to do it in public!

-At the OKC Arts Festival, I walked up to a booth selling roasted pecans. On the table they had a bowl filled with mixed nuts. As I was putting a pecan in my hand, a lady walked up to me and said: "I'm sorry we aren't handing out samples!" She was nice enough to let me eat the one in my hand.

-I went to the eye doctor this week. I've been dreading it for a while and was really nervous when I arrived. When the doctor asked me to read the row of letters, I couldn't. He probably changed out the letters 4 or 5 times before I could read them. Big surprise, I need glasses.

The awkward part: I refused to let them dilate my eyes. I just didn't like the idea of putting drops in my eyes. For the rest of the appointment the doctor made snide remarks about how I'm scared of eye drops.

-The way ketchup and mustard tastes mixed together on top of meatloaf.

-The roasted pecans I bought at the art festival (I felt obligated).

-My friend Susan made a wonderful pound cake for our luncheon at work. I'm still dreaming about it.

I just realized all of those have to do with food. Should I be concerned?

-The way the breeze feels against my skin while riding around in my mother's convertible.

-Today is Friday.

Welcome to adulthood

The other day someone told me I was an adult.

We were in the middle of a conversation (I was talking about my relationship with my parent’s) and I said something like “Now that I’m an adult…” I hesitated to finish the sentence. She could tell that the statement tasted weird coming out of my mouth and she confirmed: “yes, yes you are an adult.”

Over the past few years, well ever since I left the nest for college, I have loosely joked about how I am an “adult” (actually, I think I called myself a “grown-ass-woman.” classy I know). All this time I’ve been joking, never taking myself seriously.

But, lately I've noticed some changes.

1. (probably my favorite change) I’m friends with my parents. We talk EVERY DAY because why? Because we WANT to, because we have things to talk about. You know what else is cool? They tell me things, things about themselves I never knew! I’m getting to know them as people. It’s wonderful.

2. I rarely get I’D for drinks at restaurants or at the liquor store. I don’t know why this is because I turned 21 yesterday. (Well it seems like yesterday).

3. My friends are all married. BOOOOOO. That’s all I have to say.

4. Since when did high school boys look like babies? And when did 30-year-old men start looking handsome?

5. Someone tell me how I learned to cook?

I’ll rephrase: Someone tell me, when did I start cooking food that actually tastes good?

6. At what point in my life did I decided that shorts/skirts must at least go to my fingertips. (The thought of wearing a teeny pair of shorts makes me cringe). Remember when we would try to find a way around that rule in middle school?

7. My idea of a great night is eating pasta and snuggling up to a movie, or maybe an episode of Smash. (Definitely not hanging out in a smoky bar).

8. I’d rather shop for home décor than clothes.

9. Staying up past midnight is nearly impossible for my heavy eyes.

10. I keep my room in a constant state of clean. Because I want to.

So I guess I am an adult.

(I didn’t even mention the fact that I did my own taxes this year).

And you know what?

I think it’s pretty awesome.

The Dallas Flea

My trip to Dallas was such a success.  I went with my friend, Melissa, and we had a blast! Our time was spent shopping and eating at fabulous restaurants.  What could be more fun right?

I tried to remember to take pictures, it was hard to lug around a bulky camera so some of them are snapshots from my phone!

Also, because Picnik closed shop, I decided to try out Pic Monkey to edit some of the photos! It was easy to use and I think they turned out great!

A few goodies I picked up at the flea:
Poster by Southern Fried Paper. Check out their Etsy shop here

Boutique Scarf
Taylor Custer earrings: Check out her Etsy shop here

**Note: I also got a beautiful card for Mother's Day at Christina Walker Designs, check out her site here.**

After the flea we got brunch and pomegranate mimosas!

To top it all off, we had a yummy dinner at Del Frisco's Grill.

It was a wonderful trip. I bought way too much stuff (not pictured) and I completely ruined my diet!! All in all, I'd say it was a success.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

April Birchbox

Before we start discussing this months box, I just want to thank those of you who have subscribed using a link from my blog! I don't know who you are but it totally made my day when I got on my account and saw that I had 150 point's from referrals!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Okay, this month’s Birchbox was a real treat! Everything inside was made using natural ingredients. Following the “green” theme (and because I needed to practice with my new camera) I decided to take the pictures in a more natural environment.

And by natural environment, I mean in the patch of grass next to the parking lot of my apartment complex.

My goods:

Yes To™ Blueberries Brightening Facial Towelettes:
LOVE these, perfect in my workout bag

Pür Minerals 4-in-1 Mineral Tinted Moisturizer:
eh, its okay.

Taylor Swift Wonderstruck (perfume):
I don't hate it! (Again, great in my gym bag)

BENTA BERRY G-1 Exfoliating Facial Cleanser
I only got 2 uses out of this tiny tube but loved it! Wonderful smell, left my skin smooth.

Kahina™ Giving Beauty Facial Lotion
I haven't tried this yet. With all the humidity, I'm scared of any extra moisture on my face.

Kahina™ Giving Beauty Argan Oil
Yes. Yes, this stuff is gooood.

If you've been reading my Birchbox stories and are considering ordering one for your hardworking/lovely self, just pull the trigger and do it already!

I promise you won't regret it!

Click here if you are in need of a little extra pampering next month...and the month after that. (and the month after that too).

Okay I'm done.

Have a good day!

Ahhh Friday, we meet again.

I absolutely love Fridays but today is special. When 5 o’clock rolls around, I’ll be out the door and headed south down highway 75. My friend Melissa invited me to join her in Dallas, TX, for a girl’s weekend. We are going to some place called the “Flea?” I hear it is a marketplace filled with locally made items and boutiques. Sounds like my kind of place!

It feels good to be back to my regular #H54F post! (I skipped out last week). As usual, I’m linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk.

I registered to run a 5K while I'm in NYC!
I'm kinda nervous.
I hope I don't get run over by all the experienced runners.

I will be moving soon!! (not from Ada) just down the road.
I've had so many problems with noise issues that I'm about to loose my mind!
My new apartment (duplex) is still being built, I should be moving sometime this summer.
Obviously, I will be the first person to live there...yay!
(It makes my top five this week because I saw the floor plans and turned in my application.)

I never win prizes or contests.
I have the worst luck when it comes to that kind of thing!
But this week I won some fresh flowers at a luncheon!
They have made my desk a better place.

My Birchbox came this week!
It's a GOOD one!
I'm working on my review and should have it up in a couple of days!

I'm probably the last person to jump on the "mint" trend.
I love my new essie polish, Turquoise and Caicos.
My shopping goal this weekend:
Find something in mint.

Happy Friday!

Awkward and Awesome!

-Sometimes I get caught talking to myself at work. Normally it’s when I’m coming out of the restroom (thinking about the things I need to get done). The other day I was whispering my “to-do” list (without realizing it) and someone asked who I was talking to…

-Falling asleep *every night* to the sound of my (new) neighbor snoring. He moved in below me last week…yay.

-As I mentioned the other day, I’ve had some problems with my new blog URL. One of the problems I’ve encountered is that my blog is blocked on my office computer. “Hey boss, do you mind unblocking my blog so I can post while I’m at work?” just kidding…hehe.

-Yesterday, while I was jogging, I heard a man singing at the top of his lungs. I couldn’t tell where it was coming from because there are several trees along the trail. I freak out, thinking that a singing psycho killer was about to jump out of the bushes and kill me. Suddenly, I see a scrawny teenage boy walking by wearing his earphones. He had no clue I could hear him.

-Last night I finished the first season of Mad Men. Peggy had a BABY? What! I didn’t know she was pregnant! Loving this show.

-I finally got the date set for my best friend’s bachelorette party. I can’t wait for our girls’ trip to Dallas! Any ideas of what to do that doesn’t involve going to a bar?

-I’m really enjoying Twitter. I find myself checking it throughout the day and I'm constantly laughing out loud. I saw this tweet yesterday and had to share it with you:

I hope you all are having a good week! Tomorrow is Friday! Whooo hooo!

My fellow bloggers, I need your help!!

I know some of you have encountered problems with finding my site after I changed my URL. Well, you aren't alone! I've also had problems.

After spending hours on Google trying to get it fixed (with no luck), I'm throwing in the towel!

This is what's been going on:

I purchased my domain ( through blogger. I'm in the process of ordering business cards. Because my blog title is so very long, I decided that I didn't want the (dot)blogspot(dot)com on the card.

-Ever since, I've had problems with the URL. Sometimes I can access my site with no problems, other times it appears unavailable.

-Also, I cant share my new posts on facebook with my mobile device or on my desktop. I get a message that says "unable to find link."

-For some reason, my blog appears as "blocked" on my work computer.

Now, I am almost positive that I did something wrong while creating my custom domain. I am in over my head people!

Obviously, I have no clue what I'm doing.

If you think you might be able to help please please please contact me!

email me here:

Thank you!

*UPDATE: I spoke with the people at Google, apparently a lot of people with custom domains are having issues, they are looking into a solution.

If you have been having problems viewing my blog, please don't give up! I hope it is fixed soon!

As most of you know, we've had some serious weather issues in the OK. It was predicted that the entire state was to be blown away by a tornado. As you can imagine, this prediction wasn’t good for my emotional health.

Friday afternoon, I returned to my office (from a 3 day conference) with this mass email in my inbox:

"There is a tornado on the ground crossing I-35 at this time near the Sooner Mall. It’s headed straight for OU Campus. The news is advising anyone in Norman to take shelter now."

Talk about straight to the point! Can you imagine getting this if you had a child in college at OU? Yikes!

Norman is about an hour from me. Along I-35 lives the nearest Target, Pier one, Ulta, pretty much all my favorite stores. (That’s right people; I have to drive an HOUR to get to the nearest Target).

Luckily, everyone in Norman is okay.

That night I became obsessed with the weather. At first, I was just trying to get information on people in Norman, trying to find out if my precious Target survived.

But then I stumbled across some information that literally made me sick.

Saturday’s forecast.

The entire state was in red. If you live in tornado alley you know how serious the color “red” can be.

I was seeing headlines that used scary language like “Midwest Braces for Life Threatening Tornadoes.”

Now if you’re a single girl living on the second floor of an apartment, this is very unsettling news.

So I did what anyone in my situation would do. I went home to my Daddy.

If there’s anyone in the world who can protect me, it’s him!

My sister Courtney, who is also living alone in an upstairs apartment, came home as well.

We prepared by taking our cars to the nearest parking garage, stocking up on yummy snacks and making pallets on the floor.

Sorry I dont have any pictures from my weekend. I may or may not have worn the same outfit for 2 days straight with no make can only imagine the bags under my eyes.

We stayed up watching the weather most of the night, luckily it only rained in our part of the state. I know other people weren’t so lucky. I can’t imagine how scary it must have been for them or what they are going through today.

Everyone on twitter kept me entertained. I was seeing hashtags like #tornadogeddon and endless jokes about the weather man (poor guy).

My favorite tweet was by @rachshingleton (you should probably follow her, she is a style/design genius and pretty hilarious).

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend spent bunkered down with my family.

Happy Monday!

That just happened.

If you have been keeping up with me on twitter (@orrbrittney) you probably already know that I’ve been in Tulsa this week for the PRSA conference. I had a wonderful time and learned a lot of valuable information.

See, I planned a fabulous post where I was going to share all my new found knowledge about communications/PR…but unfortunately, I’m pooped.

I’m just plain sick and tired of listening to people talk about PR and social networking. (I love it, I really do, but after 3 days it tends to get a little boring).

If it’s okay with you, I think I’ll save that for another day and just leave you with this story about how I’ve managed to make a fool out of myself once again.

This is what happened:

I was at the lunch keynote, listening to a long presentation that included flow charts and graphs, when I decided my lips could use a little color. I bent down and began digging through my purse (sitting on the floor next to me) when I got this weird sensation like someones watching me. I look up and see my coworker with a horrified expression on her face. It was at that moment that I realized the purse I'm digging through doesn’t belong to me.

Actually, the purse belongs to (you guessed it) the lady giving me the death stare.
She then proceeds to ask: “Can I help you with something? What is it you’re looking for?”

Awkwardly, I reply: “My lip gloss”

She said “Well, I don’t think you’ll find it in there!”

Thankfully, she laughed it off.

I, oh the other hand, am beyond mortified. I could drop dead right now! Rummaging through another woman’s purse? How did that happen? Her purse is white…mine is DARK BROWN?

I don’t think I’ll be able to face her on Monday…is anyone hiring?

Awkward and Awesome

-After a run with my friend (who is in much better shape) I'm so out of breath that I can't speak. Not to mention the cramp in my side. Several minutes pass without talking. Finally, she breaks the silence and asks me a question. It seriously took all the strength I had to wheeze out "give me a minute I can't talk" followed by another 5 minutes of silence while I try to pull myself together. I hope she doesn't breakup with me (as a running buddy).

-watching a show on my DVR when suddenly a little map appears on the bottom left corner of the screen with the words: "Tornado Watch." For a split second I get a little tense, then I remember it's an old show and it's not storming outside.

-When Marlboro Man posts on PW blog. He is a good writer and a great photographer. Also, I'm mildly in love with him. Now don't get all fussy! I just love the idea of him. A strong man wearing Levi's with a deep voice and Southern drawl. He loves his family and works hard to take care of them. I got my eye on cowboy Josh. I will probably marry him. He just doesn't know it yet. And then he will be my guest blogger and I will learn how to make a pecan pie.

-This recipe. Tried it. Loved it. Easy. Healthy. Delicious.

-I found out this week that my brother got accepted into the internship program at my company and will be spending his summer with me (well, he will be living in intern housing). I predict many Harry Potter marathons and dinners in our future!

-I'm in Tulsa for the PRSA conference and guess who is in town tonight? Miranda Lambert!! Of course I'll be there!

I hope you all have had an equally awesome week!

Book Review: Fire

Fire, by Kristin Cashore, is the second in a Trilogy. The first was Graceling, which you can read about here. The Third, Bitterblue, will be out May 1st.

Fire is the prequel to Graceling. (You don't have to read them in order, you can read Fire before Graceling, the plots are totally different)

Fire is a “monster” woman; the most desired woman in the entire kingdom. Some people hate her (jealousy) and men desire her. Her hair is the color of Fire (hence the name). Her fiery hair is an indicator of her “monster status” and her dangerous power of mind control.

Fire is Cansrel's daughter. The only living monster human in the Dells. (Monster's can control the minds of others) She is  afraid that she is evil like her father, and is blamed for his terrible behavior. She hides her beauty, which drives other humans insane with desire.

Fire lives in the country and uses her powers of mind-control as rarely as possible. Her closest friend and lover, Archer, is very protective and keeps her locked up in a room by herself.

Fire is bored with her life and when Prince Brigan arrives to ask for her help, she agrees. Brigan is very suspicious of Fire. He knew her father, and is sure she is just as evil.

Fire discovers that the help the king is requesting goes against her code of ethics... but it could save the entire kingdom.

I devoured this book. It is such a great story (with a lot of romance!)

My cast list:

Fire: Ashley Greene

Archer (Fire's friend and lover): Chace Crawford

Prince Brigan: Garard Butler
(I know I've already cast him in Redeeming Love, but he is just so dang perfect. I couldn't resist!)

Cansrel (Fire's crazy father): Johnny Depp

Please, if you love to read, do yourself a favor and pick up this book asap!

Happy Feet

Growing up, I shared a weekly ritual with my Mom and Sister.

Thursday was girl’s night. Every Thursday we would go to a local grocery store and rent a sappy chick flick, swing by our favorite Chinese restaurant and order Hunan chicken to go. After dinner, we would start the movie, sitting on the tile floor while my mother painted our toes. Following the pedi's, we would share a bag of popcorn and cuddle up on the couch.

As a teenager, it was pure bliss. Just us girls.

If you know my Mom, you know how much she despises chipped toenails. She always had my toes in prefect condition. While living under my mother's roof, I never had chipped nails (or unpolished toes). We kept pretty feet all winter long. (This woman painted my nails as an infant y’all!)

Well, unexpectedly, I had to meet my Mom to pick up my sister for the weekend. Of course, I had chipped toenail polish…You’d think I gotten a tattoo or a nose ring. She went on and on about how I know better than to have chipped toes. How embarrassing it was and so on. I had to promise her that I wouldn’t go in public before I fixed them!

After I left my Mom, I went straight to Target and bought some polish.

Using the sparkly polish that came in my March Birchbox, along with essie’s pink-a-boo, I gave my toes a makeover!

My feet are so happy now!

P.S. can you tell I got a new camera?!

Two for One

Sister and I had too much fun while waiting to see the phone doctor at the apple store.

Apparently my phone was a lost cause.

They gave me a new one.

I wasn't prepared.

I lost several contacts and pictures.

...but now I can use the sleep button.

All is well.

Against my protest, Dad got a motorcycle.

A vintage 1989 Harley Trike.
(1989 shouldn't be considered "vintage." After all, I was alive.)

He took us for a ride and I think I might have enjoyed it.

So while all of you were hunting eggs, we were cruising Tulsa singing "Life is a Highway."

That's not true, no one sang.

I just thought about it.

Decided it would damage Dad's "biker rep."

I just realized that for 20 minutes, I was a biker chick.

Now if you will excuse me, I think I'll go over to eBay and look for a leather vest and some kind of leather hair accessory.

Book Review: Graceling

Happy Saturday!

I hope you are having a great weekend! I don't normally blog on Saturdays but I am so excited about this book that I've made an exception! Thursday I mentioned that I finished reading Fire (which was such a GREAT read). Fire is the second book in a trilogy.  I finished the first book a few weeks ago and I'm a little late posting my review.

The book before Fire, Graceling, was also a page turner!

(Oh yeah, There's something you should know about both of these books...I just told you they are a series... but actually, they have nothing to do with each other. It doesn't matter what order you read them...there is only one character from Graceling in Fire.)

Graceling, by Kristin Cashore was an easy read; I knocked it out in one weekend. It's another epic journey/teen romance (by “teen romance” I mean older teens, almost 20-year-olds. The suggested age is 14 but let me just say, my 14-year-old would not be reading this. There is an *ahem* adult scene that would probably be cut from the movie in order to keep it PG-13 if ya catch my drift…).

Graceling is about a woman named Katsa. Kasta is a “Graceling,” a rare person with an expert skill. Katsa's Grace is killing (she can kill with her bare hands) and her uncle, King Randa, forces her to use her grace to punish people who disobey him. Everyone in the kingdom is afraid of her; they think she is a monster.

However, Kasta is the opposite; she is a secret protector of the kingdom. She has formed an “underground” group that protects the people who are being mistreated by all of the kings.

This is one of those books that you think you understand what’s going on, you think you have it all figured out, but in the end, you had it all wrong.

I’ll let Amazon tell you the rest:

“When she first meets Prince Po, Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change. She never expects to become Po's friend. She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace--or about a terrible secret that lies hidden far away . . . a secret that could destroy all seven kingdoms with words alone.”

I can’t tell you who the villain is because it would be a major spoiler, but let me just say: I have NEVER been more creeped out by a villain like this one.

My heart would race at the mention of his name.

Here is my cast list:

Kasta: Lyndsy Fonseca

Po: Henry Cavill

Raffin: Andrew Garfield

Lord Giddon: Colin Firth

King Randa: Alan Rickman

King Leck: Paul Giamatti

Bitterblue: Bailee Madison

I really hope you enjoy Graceling! If you've read it, I would love to hear your thoughts!!

Happy Easter!
